This character combines the characters for the sun () and the moon (). And if you think about it, the sun and the moon together would be pretty bright, right?

Also, this is more about vocabulary than kanji, but I just wanted to share some ways to remember the characters for one of the example words: 明日. There are two different ways to remember the kanji for ‘tomorrow’:

  • Since it is a combination of ‘bright’ and ‘day,’ you can think about how tomorrow is a ‘bright day’ since anything can happen! (If you’re into optimism and all that)
  • Personally, I always thought about how (if you think about 日 as ‘sun’ instead of ‘day’) the characters kind of show a progression of time. A sun and a moon followed by another sun. Hence, tomorrow.
